1 .Form an ornament committee whose sole focus is ornament sales.
2. Seek an enthusiastic committee chairman who has the time to oversee planning and implementation.
3. Identify who your prospective buyers are and determine how many could reasonably be expected to purchase an ornament. Set a goal for total ornament sales. You may need to purchase a focused call list.
4. Determine when you want/need sales to end and then work backwards to set timelines for each aspect of the fundraiser.
5. Create a plan with a time line and a division of labor. Depending on the size of your organization and your campaign, you may want subcommittees dedicated to specific functions. These may include:
- Creative: Design the ornament (and box, if appropriate) and such things as posters
fliers, billboards, etc.
- Creative: Compose letters, e-mails, public service announcements (press releases).
Create the order form.
- Marketing/publicity: Identify and implement appropriate methods of raising awareness
- Research: Compile prospective buyer and media outlet street address and/or e-mail lists
- Bookkeeping/accounting: Order ornaments, track sales, deposit checks, pay bills, etc.
- Special events: Plan silent auction, parties, etc.
- Sales: E-mail – Arrange for letter, order form, flier, etc to be in electronic form
- Sales: Retail – Arrange sales in your own gift shop (if applicable) and/or seek
consignment sales through retail stores
- Sales: Direct mail - Order materials. Stuff envelopes, apply labels & postage
- Sales: Personal contact – Recruit others outside the committee to sell ornaments.
- Provide support, encouragement and accountability in meeting goals & timeline.
